A Samba Warm-Up to Rio’s Carnival Spirit

If you want a quick, high-energy taste of Rio’s Carnival spirit, this beginner Samba class in Ipanema is such a good choice. The studio is easy to find, the group is small and the vibe feels relaxed from the moment you walk in.

Gaby, our instructor, is full of life. The kind of person who makes you feel confident even if you’ve never tried Samba before. She broke down the basic steps slowly, helped us find the rhythm and made sure everyone was keeping up. By the end of the hour, we were actually dancing a full routine, laughing through the mistakes and celebrating the wins.

At the end she brought out real Carnival costume pieces. Big feathered headpieces, bright colors, the whole moment. We took photos and honestly felt like we were ready for Rio Carnival 2026.

If you’re visiting Rio and want something fun, cultural and beginner-friendly, add this class to your list. It was an hour well spent and one of the highlights of my trip.
