When does Trinidad Carnival season really start?
Carnival is not just two days on the road. Culturally, the season begins on Boxing Day — December 26, 2026 — when major fetes drop, soca releases ramp up and the island stops talking about Christmas and starts talking about Carnival. By the time road days arrive, the country has been moving for weeks.
If you can arrive by the Thursday before Carnival Monday, you will feel that momentum at its peak.
Step 01
Secure your mas costume — June to September 2026
If you plan to play mas, band launches matter just as much as flights. Major bands — Tribe, Bliss, YUMA, Ronnie & Caro, Lost Tribe — reveal their 2027 collections between June and September 2026. Top frontline sections can sell out within hours of launch.
How mas band registration works
- Band reveals its theme and costume designs at launch.

- Payment plans are usually available but require a deposit upfront.

What does a mas costume include?
Mas is more than a costume. Your registration covers road experience access, security, food and drinks on the road, cool-down zones and curated artist trucks. For most visitors it is one of the largest Carnival expenses after flights and accommodation.

Book flights and accommodation — March to June 2026
Most airlines release schedules up to 331 days in advance. February 2027 flights will start appearing around March–April 2026. Book in the March–June window for the best fares. Prices climb sharply from September onward and peak in December and January.

Getting around during Carnival week
