When does Trinidad Carnival season really start?
Carnival is not just two days on the road. Culturally, the season begins on Boxing Day – December 26, 2026 when major fetes drop, soca releases ramp up and the island stops talking about Christmas and starts talking about Carnival. By the time road days arrive, the country has been moving for weeks.
If you can arrive by the Thursday before Carnival Monday, you will feel that momentum at its peak.
Band launches begin July 2026. Tribe, Bliss, Lost Tribe and Harts are all confirmed for July 4. Spirit Mas launches July 9–12. Paparazzi on July 25. Registration opens shortly after each launch, popular sections sell out within hours.

Secure your mas costume — June to September 2026
If you plan to play mas, band launches matter just as much as flights. Major bands such as Tribe, Bliss, YUMA, Ronnie & Caro, Lost Tribe reveal their 2027 collections between June and September 2026. Top frontline sections can sell out within days of launch.
How mas band registration works
- Band reveals its theme and costume designs at launch.

- Payment plans are usually available but require a deposit upfront.

What does a mas costume include?
Mas is more than a costume. Your registration covers road experience access, security, food and drinks on the road, cool-down zones and curated artist trucks. For most visitors it is one of the largest Carnival expenses after flights and accommodation are around $800–$2,200+ USD depending on band and section.

Book flights and accommodation — book as early as possible
February 2027 flights are already available. The March–June 2026 window offered the best fares. If you haven’t booked yet, move now. Prices climb sharply from September onward and peak in December and January.

Where to stay for Trinidad Carnival 2027
Location affects transport costs, sleep quality and how easily you reach events. All major hotels — Hyatt, The BRIX, Courtyard by Marriott, Radisson are sold out for Carnival week at ~$700/night. Secure a guesthouse or Woodbrook Airbnb ($300–$500+/night) as early as possible.

- Belmont: Local feel, walking distance to the parade route

Getting around during Carnival week
A private driver booked in advance is the most reliable option ($80–$150/day). Car rental works if you are comfortable navigating Carnival traffic. Taxis become difficult to find late at night during peak events.

Pick your fetes — tickets drop October to December 2026
Not all fetes are the same. Format shapes your experience, your budget and your energy across the week. Most major tickets release October–December 2026 via committee early access or public online sales. Start monitoring by September 2026 if you have specific events on your list.
