How to Register for Spirit Mas 2027

I registered for Spirit Mas 2027. Here’s exactly how it went. After watching the band launch videos, I narrowed my choices down to two costumes before finally deciding on NOIR.

This year, I’m giving Spirit Mas a try. I’m not particularly loyal to one mas band, but I am cautious about spending Carnival money with a band I haven’t played with before. A costume can be beautiful in the photos, but the organization, customer service, road experience and overall atmosphere all matter too. I’ve heard good things about Spirit Mas and my best friend, who is a Carnival veteran and plays every year, is playing alongside me this year, so I figured it was time to give them a try.

The registration process itself was pretty straightforward. The hardest part for me was deciding what I wanted to wear. If you’re still planning your Trinidad Carnival 2027 trip, start with my Trinidad Carnival 2027 Planning Guide, where I break down the major things you’ll need to plan before you arrive.

In this guide, I’ll walk you through the Spirit Mas 2027 registration process. If you’re looking for a broader overview of how mas registration works, I also have a Trinidad Carnival Mas Band Registration guide that covers the general process.

Disclosure: I purchased my Spirit Mas 2027 costume myself and was not compensated by Spirit Mas for this post. I’m sharing my personal registration experience to help other masqueraders plan for Trinidad Carnival.

Before You Register

I recommend having your sizing information ready before you start. The registration process asks you to select your bodywear and sizes, so you don’t want to be guessing while you’re trying to check out.

You’ll also want to have your payment card nearby and ideally, have an idea of which section you’re interested in. You don’t necessarily have to know every detail before opening the site, but having your choices narrowed down will make the process much faster.

One thing I would definitely do before registering is watch the band’s launch videos. That’s what helped me narrow my choices down to two costumes. Once I had those two in mind, it was much easier to make my final decision.

Step 1: Create Your Spirit Mas Account

The first thing you’ll need is access to the Spirit Mas registration portal. One thing I found helpful is that the portal link is listed directly on the costume pages, so you don’t have to search around the website trying to figure out where to register.

The NOIR costume page shows the available package options and what’s included with the costume.

Spirit Mas specifically advises masqueraders to use the official registration portal so that the registration is valid.

If you’re a first-time Spirit Mas masquerader, you’ll need to create an account before you can complete your costume purchase.

Step 2: Browse the Spirit Mas Costumes

Once you’re inside the costume store, you’ll be able to browse the available sections and costumes.

For 2027, Spirit Mas is presenting LORE: The Story of a Mythical Forest, which takes inspiration from folklore and includes nine sections. I spent some time looking through the different designs before narrowing my choices down to two. Spirit Mas is just one of the bands you can consider for Carnival 2027. This is probably the part of registration where you’re going to spend the most time. At least it was for me.

I ultimately chose NOIR because I wanted to switch things up this year. I’m usually drawn to bright Carnival colors, but there was something about the black costume that made me want to give it a try.

Step 3: Select Your Costume

Once you’ve found the costume you want, select it to open the costume details and customization options.

This is where the registration process becomes more specific. You’re not simply selecting a costume and checking out. You’ll have to work through the available bodywear, sizing, panty and upgrade options before you can add everything to your cart.

Take your time here. If you’re between two sections, I’d compare them before moving forward rather than choosing one quickly and hoping you can change it later.

Step 4: Customize Your Costume

Once you’ve selected your costume, you’ll move into the customization section. This is where you’ll choose your bodywear package, bra size, panty style and available panty cut options. The choices you see can vary depending on the costume you’ve selected.

For NOIR, I had the option to choose between a Wire Bra, Padded Bra and Monokini. I went with the Wire Bra because I already knew that was the look I wanted. If you’re undecided, though, this is a good time to look through the different versions of the costume before making your choice.

Bodywear package options

After choosing your bodywear package, you’ll select your band and cup size. This is one part of the registration process I wouldn’t rush. Use your measurements and the sizing information provided rather than simply choosing the size you normally wear in another brand. Spirit Mas also reminds masqueraders to make sure their bodywear and sizing information is accurate before completing registration.

Band & Cup Size

Next comes the panty selection, which was probably the part I spent the most time thinking about. The available options depend on the costume you’ve selected and you’ll see the choices within the registration portal.

Panty Style dropdown

I actually reached out to Spirit Mas because I wanted to see what the different options looked like from the back before making my decision. While going through their website, I also noticed that the FAQ has photos showing examples of the different cuts, including bikini, cheeky, thong and the back of the monokini.

I really appreciate that they included these images because, let’s be honest, when you’re spending this much on a Carnival costume, you probably want to know what you’re getting from back also.

Once you’ve chosen your panty style and cut, you’ll select the corresponding size before moving on to any available add-ons.

This is another place where I recommend taking your time. Carnival is an all-day experience, so comfort matters. What looks great in a studio photo isn’t necessarily what you’ll want to wear for hours while you’re dancing, walking and moving around on the road.

Choose the option that you’re actually going to feel comfortable wearing for the entire day.

Step 5: Decide Whether You Want Add-Ons

After choosing your costume and sizing, you’ll see any available upgrades or add-ons.

For NOIR, backpacks are available separately, with different sizes shown during the registration process.

I skipped the add-ons completely.

For me, this was less about the cost and more about Carnival Tuesday logistics. By the time Tuesday rolls around and I’m in the full costume, I don’t want to be carrying anything extra. I also don’t have access to a truck, so I have to think about how I’m getting all of my Carnival pieces around and eventually, back home.

My goal is pretty simple: the fewer things I have to carry, the better.

If you love the full costume look and want the backpack, go for it. But if you’re traveling for Carnival or trying to keep your road setup simple, it’s worth thinking about whether you’ll actually want the extra piece.

Step 6: Review Your Order, Pay, and Confirm Your Registration

Once you’ve made all of your costume selections, you’ll be able to add your costume to the cart and move on to checkout.

Before you submit your order, take a minute to review everything you’ve selected. This is your chance to make sure your costume, bodywear package, bra size, panty style, panty cut, size and any add-ons are all correct. It’s much easier to catch a mistake here than after you’ve completed your payment.

Once everything looks correct , move on to payment. I chose to pay the deposit rather than the full costume price. Spirit Mas’ FAQ states that the down payment is 40% of the total cost of your package.

For my NOIR costume, my deposit was around $500 USD, although your amount will depend on the costume and package you choose. The checkout example below shows how the deposit and service fee were presented. I’ve removed personal payment information and replaced it with fictional details. I recommend paying attention to the final amount shown at checkout rather than assuming your deposit will be the same as someone else’s.

I didn’t have any issues during checkout. The payment process was pretty straightforward and after submitting my payment information, I was prompted to complete the verification step.

Once the payment went through, I received the confirmation that my order had been placed.

I also received an email confirmation and purchase receipt after completing the registration. I recommend saving both and keeping your order information somewhere easy to find. You may need those details later as you get closer to Carnival for costume pickup. And that’s it, you’ve officially registered for Spirit Mas 2027. 🎉

Before paying your deposit, it’s also worth looking at the bigger picture. Use my Trinidad Carnival Cost Calculator to estimate what your full Carnival trip could cost beyond the costume.

A Few Things I Would Do Before Registering

The biggest thing I’d recommend is don’t rush into registration just because you see a costume you like. Watch the launch videos, look through the costume photos and compare the sections before you put down your deposit.

I’d also pay attention to the smaller details. Look at the bodywear options, check the sizing information and look at the back of the bottoms if you’re trying to decide between different cuts. Spirit Mas’ FAQ makes this easier because it actually provides visual examples of the different cuts.

And finally, think about what you’ll actually want to carry on Carnival Tuesday. I skipped the backpack because I know myself. After 1 hour on the road, the last thing I want is another piece of Carnival gear to keep track of.
